Your hand-tied bouquet has arrived. Now what?
The first ten minutes with a hand-tied bouquet — unwrapping, choosing a vase and why you should keep the string on.
Every bouquet we deliver is hand-tied: the stems are laid in a spiral and bound at one point, so the bouquet holds its shape by itself. That changes how you look after it.
Leave it in the water pouch until you are ready
The pouch at the base holds enough water for a few hours. If you are not home, or not ready, stand it upright somewhere cool and it will wait.
Unwrap over a sink
Cut the paper and the pouch away, and let the water drain. Keep the string tie around the stems. It is what makes the bouquet stand up.
Choose a vase about a third of the height
A hand-tied bouquet wants a vase roughly a third as tall as the flowers, with a neck just wide enough for the tied stems. Too wide and it slumps; too tall and you lose the shape.
Trim, don’t untie
Trim the stems below the tie, two centimetres at an angle, all at the same length so they all reach the water.
After that, follow our guide to making flowers last.
